Community Development & Outreach Coordinator (she/her)
Jasmine Johnson
BSW., MSW.
My name is Jasmine Johnson, pronouns she/her, and I am second genderation Jamaica, Black Canadian. I am a passionate Community & Development Outreach Worker dedicated to advocating for Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities. My background is in Social Work, a professional area I quickly learned harmful practices go unchecked. Knowing this, I am focused on being a social justice advocate to challenge, transform, or abolish how social services, especially child welfare, is conducted. I have a Bachelor of Social Work and Certificate in Black Canadian Studies from York University, as well as a Master in Social Work specializing in Social Justice and Diversity from the University of Toronto.
As a first-generation Canadian born to Jamaican immigrant parents, my identity deeply informs how I approach community work and advocacy. In this role I create and support educational workshops, events, and outreach initiatives. I started out as a placement student for CCWS and was in awe of the organization's ethical practices and commitment to child welfare survivors and their families that I have not seen being done such respect and integrity in
Outside of work I like to immerse myself in TV, movies, and books, with a particular fondness of TV shows. For all mediums I have apps that track the hours I spend watching/reading, I like to write ratings and reviews too.
Let’s connect!
CCWS operates within a hybrid model without a fixed office; in-person program locations are shared as needed.
