Good Yute will consist of three approximately 45-minute filmed conversations between people with lived experience of the child welfare system. Each episode will explore a different theme shaped by the experiences, perspectives, and ideas shared by our community.
Filming will take place over one production day. Participants may take part in one or more of the three conversations, depending on their interests, experiences, and comfort level. Participants will receive an honorarium for their time.
The conversations will be facilitated while leaving space for participants to speak naturally, respond to one another, share stories, laugh, reflect, and bring their full selves into the conversation. No previous on-camera or media experience is required.
Good Yute is a three-part video series created by and for youth in care and child welfare survivors. The series captures authentic conversations about our experiences, culture, humour, connection, and the complexities of life in and beyond care. Telling our stories in our own voices and on our own terms.
About Good Yute
Good Yute /good yoot/ — noun, Toronto slang
Traditionally, a “good yute” is someone seen as well-behaved or staying out of trouble.
Our definition: A reclamation of who gets to be a “good yute.” Good Yute challenges the labels placed on young people from the child welfare system, creating space for us to define ourselves, tell our own stories, and exist in all our complexity.
Help Shape the Conversation
You don't have to be comfortable on camera or in a group setting to contribute. We've created different ways for child welfare survivors to share their perspectives and help shape the series.
There’s more than one way to be apart of The Good Yute

BE IN THE GOOD YUTE SERIES!
Interested in joining the filmed conversation? Let us know you'd like to be considered as an on-camera participant. Expressing interest doesn't commit you to filming.
Filming for Good Yute will take place in early November and will require a few hours of your day. Participants may appear in one or more episodes, depending on their interest and comfort level, and an honorarium will be provided for each episode they participate in.
The series is not interview-style. Each episode will be a guided but natural conversation between people with shared lived experience. Rather than being asked a series of questions or expected to prepare polished answers, participants will be invited to talk, respond to one another, share stories and perspectives, and let the conversation unfold naturally, similar to how these conversations might happen within community.
Our role is to create the space and help guide the conversation; what we want to capture is the connection and authenticity through conversations that happens between people in the room.
