Individual Advocacy Coordinator (she/her)

Nehelia Thomas

Hi, my name is Nehelia Thomas (she/her), and I’m a fourth-year Bachelor of Social Work student, currently on track to graduate with honours. I first joined CCWS in early 2025 as a placement student in the Individual Advocacy department. In that short time, I gained deep insight into the far-reaching impacts of familial policing on individuals currently within the system, those who have exited, and the families entangled in its complexities.

Through my direct work with families and ongoing study of Ontario’s child protection systems, I became even more committed to ensuring my future as a social worker is spent on the right side of history—amplifying voices that are too often silenced and centering the well-being of the children at the heart of these systems.

As a first-generation Jamaican and proud Scarborough native, I’m no stranger to resilience or the challenges of navigating systems not built with us in mind. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I bring a deep commitment—alongside my team—to advocating fiercely for those who need it most.

Outside of my work and studies, I’m a mom, partner, avid traveller, true crime documentary lover, and reality TV enthusiast. I value quiet moments whenever I can find them.
